BOOK DESCRIPTION
WORKS OF VICTOR HUGO. Complete works translated into English. In
10 leather bound volumes. General Introduction by Robert Louis
Stevenson. Published NY: Bigelow-Smith, undated but circa 1890.
Each volume of this Limited Deluxe edition is hand-numbered 108
(of 1000). Each volume contains approximately 600 pages and
measures 8 1/2 x 6. Features raised bands over gilded spines,
with marbled
covers and endpapers.
Each volume has a unique
frontispiece illustration, a Photo-Etching from various
paintings related to Hugo's works (Volume 1, for example, has
"Esmeralda" by Febvre, with the etching by Goupil et Cie).
Hugo's complete works including THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, LES MISERABLES and many more. Each volume has a gilt
top edge, with rough-cut on the remaining page edges; many pages
in the set remain uncut and are thus pristine. No dust jackets as
issued.
Condition of The Set
All bindings are tight and all
covers and spines intact and secure. The Seller states there are
very few defects other than
age-toning and a couple of small tears on the spine
of two of the volumes, as can be seen in above photos. On seven
of the volumes there is
very minor rubbing of the bottom edge of some covers as well as
minor wear and tiny rips at the top and bottom of the spines;
however, the volumes require a close inspection for these to be
noticeable. There is no staining, foxing or marking on any
pages, though the rough cut page edges appear slightly darker
than inside the pages due to age. This
beautiful Victor Hugo set is near Very Good. |
