BOOK DESCRIPTION

HISTORY OF THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE. Author: Edward Gibbon. Editor: H. H. Milman. This edition was published by A. L. Burt Publishers of New York.  While the set is undated on the copyright page and the date of June, 1845 appears at the end of the Editor's Notes, this set is believed to be the Burt reprinting of 1900  due to the set's near-pristine condition. Complete in five half-leather volumes with gilded top page edges and raised gilded bands on spines. Marbled end papers. Each volume of this edition contains between 650-700 pages and measures 7.5 x 5.75.  There are no dust jackets as issued.

Condition of The Set

All bindings are tight and all covers and spines intact and secure. The Seller states there is some minor age-toning to pages but otherwise each volume is excellent inside and out. The original owner name, "G. F. Marsh," is inscribed in very small handwriting on the blank front end page of each volume. There are no scuffs, bumps, rips or discolorations to covers. The interior pages of each volume are almost pristine, with no soiling, foxing, rips or writing other than the small "G. F. Marsh" inscription and very light toning due to age.  Overall, this set may be considered Very Good+/Fine.
